Bray Head Hotel
On Saturday 9th June I had the pleasure of visiting a hidden Irish gem, the Bray Head Hotel. The hotel is a landmark in Bray, Co.Wicklow for nearly 150 years and has been owned and operated by the same family for the past 80 years.
The exterior of the hotel totally belies the beauty and history that lies behind the tired façade. There was a wonderful atmosphere in the hotel and echoes of it’s grand past. While it is old and no longer at it’s peak, there is still a great charm to the building, one I fear time will eventually take from us. Myself and 5 friends met at the hotel, planning to spend an hour or so, exploring it, but the time flew by and before we realised it we had spent 4 happy hours exploring & photographing.
Over the years, the hotel has been used as a location for filming a number of films, including the Alan Parker classic “The Commitments”. Last week it was again in use for filming. I hope that such projects will keep the place “alive” for years to come.
If you are looking for somewhere different to photograph (or film), I’d highly recommend contacting the hotel (there is a small charge) and arrange an outing.
